What is Fred K's Cancer?

What is Fred K’s Cancer? We’re glad you asked. Fred K’s Cancer began in 2009 when we couldn’t find a proper event dedicated to raising money and awareness for Oral Cancer and Testicular Cancer. While the cancers may seem unrelated, there is a reason why we chose these particular diseases to support. Both of our fathers are named Fred (hence, Fred K’s Cancer) and are cancer survivors. Lisa’s father had been diagnosed with oral cancer in 2003 and Serena’s father had been diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2008.

Since we couldn’t find a satisfactory avenue through which we could support our fathers, we chose to organize an event ourselves. All donations raised through Fred K’s Cancer will be split between the Oral Cancer Foundation and Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation. Both foundations are registered 501(c) 3 non-profit charities. We hope to educate people about oral cancer, a disease in which they may not be familiar with, and the importance of self-examinations in order to catch testicular cancer at its earliest stages.

You may also be asking yourselves, why a baseball theme? We actively write a blog called “Traveling Baseball Babes” regarding our travels to the different MLB stadiums and news around the league. We’re hoping to use this forum as a platform to help raise awareness and donations to the cause. Both of our fathers are baseball fans, so we think coupling baseball with this event makes it more personal.

The 1st Annual Fred K's Cancer Event in June of 2010 at Cantiague Park was an enormous success, beating our fundraising goal of $2,000 by $400! In November 2010, Fred K's Cancer, Inc. became incorporated in New York State and in July 2011, a 501(c)3 public charity. We know that with the economy, things may be tighter than normal for many of us, but even if you can spare $5, it will truly make a difference. With your support and generosity, we can help strike out cancer together.
